Robert Dean Gardner, 84, of Raytown, MO., passed away peacefully on Oct. 10, 2022, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Services will be held Friday, Oct. 14 at Graceway Church. Donations may be made to the Special Olympics or the Alzheimer’s Association. Known to friends and family as Dean or Pops, he was born on Oct. 9, 1938, in Windsor, MO. to Russell and Dorothy Gardner. Following his graduation from Windsor High School in 1956, Dean worked for the U.S. Postal Service and served as a radar operator in the United States Army. After his discharge and time with the USPS, Dean went to work for Armco/Wire Rope Corporation; the company he would later retire from. Known as an avid fisherman, he loved angling for crappie at Truman Lake and rooting for his Kansas City Chiefs. Dean was a longtime member of Graceway Church and volunteered on the grounds crew. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Zonnie Gardner; children include Matthew (Allison) Gardner of Liberty, MO; Mia (Kenny) Scherer of Hutchinson, KS, and Mindy (Keith) Flick of Paris, MO. He also leaves behind five loving grandchildren, Mason, Madeline, Carson, Kennedy, and Wilson Dean.
