George Ralph Harris, 89, a longtime Liberty, MO resident, went to be with Jesus on August 2, 2023. He passed away at Liberty Hospital with family at his side.
Ralph was born June 17, 1934, the only child of Francis and Betty Harris. He graduated from North Kansas City High School and later established H & H Jewelry in Independence. He closed the store for a time when he was drafted into the US Army. Ralph was united in marriage to Joan Marie Blackburn on August 19, 1960, and they were blessed with two children, Leonard and Cyndy.
Ralph owned Harris Auto Supply at Highway 291 and Liberty Drive for nearly 30 years. Following the sale of the business he worked for Wicklund’s and later Clay County before he retired. Ralph was a member of Flack Memorial Church in Excelsior Springs, and for many years volunteered for the Fellowship of the Concerned.
Along with his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chris Jenkins, and daughter-in-law, Amy Harris. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joan; children, Leonard Harris (fiancé Jennifer Gray) and Cyndy Tovar (Loyd). He was Papa to his grandchildren, Katrina Jenkins, Zach Harris (Abbie), Alyssa Watson (Jon), Josh Jenkins, Garrick Harris and Eric Tovar; and great grandchildren, Samson, Asher, Campbell, Hazel and two great grandchildren on the way, one due in January and one due in February.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service celebrating Ralph’s life at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, August 8, at Flack Memorial Church, 1300 Tracy Avenue, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the church.
