Neva M. Green

October 28, 1933 — November 17, 2019

Neva Maria Green, a longtime resident of Independence, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She passed away in the care of Northcare Hospice House in North Kansas City Missouri, surrounded in love by her family.

Neva was born on October 28,1933 in El Dorado Springs, MO. She married the love of her life Virgil M. Green in 1951, and together they had three children, Victor Green, Scott Green and Kimberly Pittman. She worked for Jack Cooper Transport for a good many years, and it was from there that she retired.

Neva loved to travel having visited all 50 states and 18 countries. Closer to home, she was a dedicated and loving mother and Grammy, as her family truly was the pride and joy of her life. Sunday’s were a time for family and food, where Neva got to express her love for all who entered her front door through the meals they cooked and shared together. If you visited Neva’s home, you became family.

She has left an immeasurable mark on her family, and with great fondness she will be remembered for such things as her love of gardening, her early morning check in calls, her ability to find a great sale and for going on shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughters, her joy of cooking next to her children and grandchildren on Sundays, her devotion to being the first one to call and sing you Happy Birthday, rocking great grandbabies and reading them bedtime stories, and the frequent bedtime snack of graham crackers and milk. Neva had a positive, cheerful outlook when it came to her family, and she truly treasured every moment spent with them.

Neva was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Green, her father Ora Coleman, her mother Nellie Coleman, her sister Lucille Deckard, her brother Neil Coleman, and her son Victor Green.

She is survived by her son Scott Green of Oak Grove, MO, her daughter Kimberly Pittman of Sibley MO, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.
