Gwendolyn "Gwen" Midkiff (Seals), age 74, died peacefully on May 21, 2024. Gwen was born on July 26, 1949, to Frank and Dora Frances (Chan) Seals. She moved to Missouri and graduated from UMKC in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Gwen began working as a dental hygienist at the age of 21. She married Ron Midkiff and from this union two daughters were born, Danielle and Jami. Her children remember her as a mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Gwen was accomplished in her career and patients would often recognize her and complement her abilities.
She is a Godly woman who loved the Lord, her family, friends, her church family (Antioch Bible Baptist), and who was passionate about telling others about Jesus. She was dedicated to a mentoring program called Women 2 Women, where she met and shared her experiences and genuinely cared for the women involved. She prayed with them and for them consistently.
She is preceded in death by grandparents, Willa and Preston Hanson, Dona Belle and Frank M. Seals, Sr., and parents, Dora Frances and Frank M. Seals, Jr., all of Oklahoma.
Gwen is survived by her daughters, Danielle Schmitten and husband Chris of Plattsburg, MO and Jami Schwermer and her husband Jason of Gladstone, MO; grandchildren, Mikayla Keryger, Grace Schmitten, Lillie Schmitten, Sophie Schmitten, C.J. Schmitten, Shelby Schwermer, Abbie Schwermer, Corbin Schwermer and great granddaughter, Pheobe Franson; sister, Debbie Clanton of Oklahoma City; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Gwen’s caregivers: Marilyn Hake, Debbie Craig and her daughter Carrie Lynn Craig, who are lifelong friends that have been there for her throughout the years; her cousin, Dianna Austin whom she referred to as a sister; and her granddaughter, Mikayla has been devoted to her care and comfort.
To all the visitors who have come in the past few weeks, she was so excited to see everyone, and she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Thank you again!
