Harry M. Laughman, Sr., a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, in Liberty, Missouri. Born on March 10, 1935, to Urcil and Grace (Wiseman) Laughman in Zanesville, Ohio, Harry was the youngest of three children. His early years were marked by the joy of growing up with two sisters and the fond memories of his hometown.

Harry graduated from Zanesville High School; after turning 18, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he proudly served for four years. Following his military service, Harry began a versatile career, moving frequently due to his job at Liquabox Corporation as a blow molder. Settling in Missouri, he then transitioned into the electrical industry, where he enjoyed working side by side with his friends. In a testament to his fun spirit, Harry opened a bar called The Caves with his best buddy Larry Howard, creating just the right joint for all blue-collar laborers to gather.

Harry's love story began on a charming evening when he met Barbara Peacher at a dance. Their connection was sparked by a humorous mishap where Harry accidentally stepped on her dress, tearing the hem. What might have been an awkward apology turned into the perfect start of a 60 year marriage. The couple wed in September 1960, and together were blessed with three children, who reflect the warmth and love that defined their family.

Harry's personality was characterized by a deep sense of independence and pride. He was known for his strong work ethic, and those who knew him often described him as fun to be around. His interests included watching westerns and immersing himself in puzzle books, particularly enjoying word searches which provided him endless entertainment.

In addition to his family and career, Harry held memberships in the Shiner's Club and Mason’s. He took great pride in participating in community service, including driving children from Kansas City to St. Louis for the Shriner's, demonstrating his commitment to giving back. His passion for faith came from Barbara’s devotion to the Lord and Harry remained a dedicated member of the Holt United Methodist Church after her passing.

Harry is survived by his children Harry Laughman Jr. (Angela), Larry Laughman and Sharri Smith (Nathan). His legacy also includes his beloved grandsons Barris Laughman, Brent Laughman (Melissa), Brady Laughman, Kris Smith, and Josh Smith (Tami). He was cherished by his five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Barbara, parents Urcil and Grace Laughman, sisters Irena and Ellen and brother who passed after birth.

A Visitation for Harry will be held on December 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service with Military Honors starting at 11:00 AM, both taking place at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, located at 1640 N State Route 291, Liberty, MO 64068. The following week, Harry’s ashes will be privately buried next to Barbara at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty.
