Donna P. Hays

Donna Hays was born Oct. 3, 1930 in Maryville MO to Martha and Mike Mooney. She grew up as an only child in Jamesport MO. After High School she went to St. Joseph MO to Beauty school. She worked for other beauty parlors in St Joseph and married and had a daughter, Kayla Todd. They moved to a farm near Gower MO. She was brave to divorce and moved into Gower and started Donna's Beauty Salon. She and Kayla lived there until she met and married Bert Hays. They moved to Grandview, MO to where she became a mother to Bert's 2 sons, Mark and Jake.

She enjoyed being a wife and mother and made a family of this group. After a while, she started up another hair salon, part time this time. It was her way to start to make new friends in a new city. She was a social butterfly, always cooking for her family, friends and other family in dinner parties. She dearly missed her Gower friends, but they continued to see each other once a year up until and including this year. She also continued to meet up with friends from her high school days.

They loved to travel and eventually joined an Airstream club, becoming President and First Lady of that club. Later they bought a small park model in Tucson AZ and wintered there until and including this last winter. In MO they had a home built in Independence and they lived there until late this summer. Donna moved to an assisted living facility in Columbia for 2 1/2 months to be near her daughter and grand daughters. She passed away on October 31, 2018. She was always an upbeat person who didn't always attain that she wanted, but tried to make the best of any situation.
