Charles Lester "Charlie" Hensley, 84, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, March 21, 2022, in North Kansas City, MO.
Charlie was born October 8, 1937, in Minneville, MO. He graduated from North Kansas City High School class of 1954; graduated from William Jewell College in May of 1964; and went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education.
Charlie served in the United States Army from March 2nd, 1956, to March 1st, 1958, when he was Honorably released from active duty. He then served 4 years in the Army Reserve.
Charlie was united in marriage to Janet K. Bethmann (deceased) on June 14, 1971, in St. Charles, MO.
Charlie had many interesting occupations over the years, including picking sweet corn at the age of 8; bailing hay; setting pins in a bowling alley; racking balls in a pool hall; working at the Post Office; driving a school bus; painting houses and barns; a janitor; a school teacher; a principal; a school administrator; a Sherriff’s Deputy; drove an ice cream truck; a race horse trainer; owned a horse arena and stables; owned an Italian restaurant; owned a lawn maintenance company; owned a construction company; sold insurance, commercial mowers, school books, maps, semi-trucks, church bulletins, commercial tools, Bonanza Buildings, and swimming pools; and he was a retail sales manager for a winery.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Janet K. Hensley; father Milton Ray Hensley; mother Dorothy Louise Dold (nee Calhoun); brother Richard (Dick) K. Hensley; stepson, Steven Noel; and granddaughter Sadie Meilin Hensley.
Charlie is survived by his sister, Linda Norris of Kansas City, MO; his 4 sons: Randall (Randy) L. Hensley of Edgerton, MO; Jeffrey (Jeff) M. Hensley and wife Debra of Platte County, MO; Brian S. Hensley and wife Teresa of Kansas City, MO; and Charles (Chad) J. Hensley and wife Ashley of St. Charles, MO; Joyce Schumacher (nee Ainsworth) former wife and mother of Randy, Jeff and Brian; 10 grandchildren: Alex, Colin, Eric, Bessie Shea, Carli, Jackson, Addison, Jacob, Levi, and Malachi; 2 great grandchildren: Rosalyn, Abram; and many other relatives and friends.
A Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 pm Saturday, April 23, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 North State Route 291, Liberty, MO.
