Madeline was born September 22, 1930, in Martinsville, MO, one of seven children of Alva and Roxie C. (Turner) Groves. She grew up in Martinsville and graduated from high school there. Madeline loved the outdoors and fishing. So after the passing of Slim, Madeline took a job working at Burton’s Bait and Tackle, where she never met a stranger. She has spent the last 18 years with companion, Leonard F. “Butch” Butcher. She and Butch loved music and going to dances.

Survivors include Leonard F. “Butch” Butcher, of the home; four sons, Gary Burton (Natalie) of Smithville, MO, Brent Burton (Mary McGinley) of Plattsburg, MO, Russell Wayne Hickman (Donna) of Ft. Worth, TX and Richard Hickman (Debbie) of North Port Long Island, NY; daughter, Karen Ann Lynch (Tom) of Spickard, MO; brother, Larry Groves (Janice) of Bethany, MO; sisters, Maxine Parman (James) of Stanberry, MO and Norma Pittsenbarger of Bethany, MO; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilbur, Jim and Donald Groves, and husbands, Dale Burton and Slim Hickman.

Our Tribute To Madeline: As we have gone throughout these first few days of your passing, precious memories have continually flooded our minds. We know that you have prayed many a prayer on your journey of life, and while we know that each one was unique to your situation at the time you breathed it, we know, because we had the privilege of having known you, that the following prayer was one that while you may not have audibly spoken it, it was deep within your heart...... “Lord, of all the things I have to accept in my life, I pray silently Heavenly Father, that you will never let me know the last time I’ve caught my last fish....found my last mushroom, danced my final dance.....nor made my last ride on “Little Joe”. Amen. Madeline, Rest In Peace, knowing that, like the example of the leaf, you lived life as well as you could, for as long as the good Lord allowed, until it was time to let go and allow yourself to drift away with grace. With love, Tom~Karen Anne Blake~Johannah Darlene Trevor~Matalie Anne

I am so sorry to learn of Madeline's passing. I have fond memories of her and Dale and my parents playing cards on the weekends at their home, while Gary, Brent and I, ate popcorn and watched TV or played. I will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.
