Doris May was born September 13th 1924, to William and Pearl Shoaf in Kansas City, Missouri. She passed away peacefully on January 17th 2023.

Doris is proceeded in death by her parents, siblings John Shoaf, Robert Shoaf and Stella Thompson. And her beloved husband Jack Hickson.

She founded Environmental Temperature Control Inc with Jack in 1970. They worked side by side until he passed. She continued to work there until her retirement with her sons Craig and Donald.

She was an avid bowler for many years bowling weekly with her league. She loved reading, seeing movies, attending plays and traveling. She loved having family dinners and playing games afterwards.

She was a dedicated friend to many and beloved to all that knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Darrell Smock (Jo) Toledo, Ohio, Craig Hickson (Kathy) Raymore, Missouri and Donald Hickson (Bonnie) Kansas City, Missouri.

She was the proud grandma to Brian (Michelle) Smock, Kevin Smock, Alison (Michael) Owen and Jessica (Eric) Yingling.

Great Grandma to Devin Smock, Jacob Smock, Cassidy Smock , Jackson and Lyla Owen.

She will be missed by countless nieces and nephews who all have fond memories of her while growing up.

The family would like to thank Benton House of Raymore and Brighton Hospice for loving and taking amazing care of our beloved Doris.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Wayside Waifs since she was an avid animal lover who would always stop and pet a dog.

Visitation will be 12PM, with services to follow at 1PM, Tuesday, January 24 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Green Lawn Cemetery.
