Hodge, Mildred W.

December 12, 1921 — February 13, 2020

Mildred W. Hodge, 98, passed February 13, 2020. Mildred was born December 12, 1921 to Huedell Walker and Lottie Marie Gordon of Dewitt, MO. Her sister Geneva Nelson, brothers Huedell Walker, Jr. and Maurice Walker, both parents and siblings have preceded her in death.

Mildred accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was married for 47 years to the love of her life Fedro Hodge who also preceded her in death.

Mildred and Fedro raised Cheryl Perkins as their own and adored and truly loved her. She also cherished the relationships she had with her great great niece B’Lasha Perkins and nephews Dale Perkins, Jr., Chaz Perkins and Adrian Shephard.

Mildred was an active member of National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., the Alpha Alpha Chapter since 1953. She enjoyed traveling with her sorority sisters and often spoke of their many adventures particularly a trip to New York and the beautiful dogs in Central Park. Their monthly luncheons and travel brought her great joy and happiness.

Mildred was always kind, patient and humble. She had a good heart. She enjoyed listening to country, music, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader.

Mildred strongly believed in a good education. This was instilled in her by her grandparents who raised her. Mildred graduated from Lincoln University and received a degree in education and majored in mathematics becoming an elementary school teacher. She later earned a master’s degree from UMKC. Mildred was a dedicated teacher who cherished her students and expected nothing but the best. She was promoted to Head of the Math Department for the Kansas City School District.

She retired from the Kansas City School District after 37 years of service.

Mildred was blessed to have a compassionate caregiver Vera Owsley and a special nephew Walter Hodge, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The first Christmas Card I would received every year was from my sister-in law Mildred, remembering her wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace!

My first memory of Aunt Mildred was her trip to Seattle representing the Kansas City School District at a conference. As a teenager I was asked to pick her from the Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle and bring her to our home. I entered the lobby of the hotel having no ideal what she looked like and then I heard a voice say your Raymond's daughter I know that Hodge strut from anywhere. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. May God give you the peace that you seek. RIP Aunt Mildred you will be missed.
