Joann M. Holler

October 23, 1935 — January 27, 2021

Joann Marie Honeycutt was born on October 23rd, 1935 and grew up in the East Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri where she met Homer Holler at age 12 who would become her husband and lifetime companion at age 17, therefore giving her the name of Joann Marie Holler.

They would go on to have 4 children, 3 boys, Howard, Russell and Rick and 1 daughter Shari. She did her part of raising these children by working at a Vinegar plant called Speas. Also located in the East Bottoms. This was a job she enjoyed as she spoke of it all the time. She loved her children with all of her heart and I’m sure they can all think of a time when she did everything possible to help them.

Joann had a love for Country music and had a special song her husband Homer would play for her with his guitar. This song was “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” by Willie Nelson. The song had a special meaning for both of them and Joann would later learn how meaningful these words would become. Now maybe they are finally taking that stroll hand in hand.

Joann was not a person that lived without tragedy. She lost her father Hiram when she was just 2 years old, lost her firstborn son Howard to sickness when he was just 34 ½ years old and her husband Homer of 60 years in 2011. But somehow during these times she managed to keep her head up and go on.

Joann was the type of person that would help you in anyway she could. She loved her family and friends, the Kansas City Chiefs, the beauty of the flowers on her back deck on a warm summer day and her dog Gigi, of whom she is taking home with her today.

If you knew Joann, you knew she was the most loving and caring woman in the world. If you don’t know her perhaps you will meet her in Heaven one day. She was and will continue to be dearly loved by all.

Joann was preceded in death by her father Hiram, mother Ila, husband of 60 years, Homer, son Howard, grandson Howard, Jr., brother Chuckie and two sisters, Shirley and Susie.  She is survived by her two sons Russell and Rick, daughter Shari, sister Doris and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Joann passed away January 27, 2021.  Visitation will be 12PM, service to follow at 1PM, Tuesday, February 2 at Park Lawn, 8251 Hillcrest Rd.; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
