Stephen Eugene Holmes

Stephen Eugene Holmes, 71, passed away November 1, 2019, at Tiffany Springs Health Care, surrounded by family. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a celebration service at 11:00 am, on Saturday, November 9, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the K.U. Alzheimer's Disease Center (kualzheimer.org).

Steve was born July 4, 1948, in St. Joseph, MO, the youngest of four children of Henry Franklin and Almina (Allison) Holmes.

As a young man, Steve was an accomplished equestrian, showed horses with his brother Jim, and proudly became an Eagle Scout at age 15. He graduated from Central High School, St. Joseph, in 1966, and later received his Bachelor's degree, major in Economics and minor in Spanish, from Missouri State University. As a member of the Spanish Club during college, Steve traveled to Nicaragua and Mexico for the American Red Cross, teaching swimming and life saving.

Steve was united in marriage to Nancy Joene Prewitt on November 24, 1972, at Ashland Avenue Methodist Church in St. Joseph.

Steve's first job was with Southwestern Bell in Springfield for eight years. He then began his career as a financial planner for the next 35 years. Through his life, Steve played guitar and sang in a rock and roll band, was a licensed pilot and certified scuba diver.

Along with Nancy, his wife of 46 years, Steve's family members include his daughter, Jessica Thompson of Kansas City; son, Alex Stephen Holmes, RN-BC of Kansas City; grandson, John Paul Burns of Kansas City; brothers: Jim Holmes (Diane deceased) of Denver, CO and Bill Holmes (Susan) of Goodyear, AZ; sister, Anne Maul (Paul deceased) of Castlerock, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Steve was a wonderful husband, dad, and Papa, who loved organizing social events with neighbors and friends, karaoke, singing, dancing, and living life to its fullest.
