April 25, 1924 — October 20, 2018

Homer Halbert Hoover of Kansas City and Raytown died peacefully on the eve of Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the age of 94.

He was the father of Becky, Tony, and Andy, the husband of Mary Sue, and the brother of Lorilee Robinson and Pat Shannon.

He was born in Wellsville, KS on April 25, 1924. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.  Following graduation he became a naval officer and served in World War II, leaving naval service honorably at the rank of Lieutenant.

After the war he worked for Phillips Petroleum in Bagdad, Iraq.

He returned to Kansas City, and worked several decades for Corn Products Refining Company (CPC) / Corn Products International.  This company later became National Starch, and is now Ingredion.

He cared about others more than himself, and spent many years caring for cattle and other animals on his cattle ranch.  In addition to raising cattle, he farmed tobacco, corn, and soybeans.  He also raised some fun crops on the farm.  He also raised some of the tallest sunflowers and the tastiest strawberries, tomatoes, watermelons, canteloupe, and potatoes for his children.

He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will have a public celebration at a later date.  Those interested in attending are urged to contact the Park Lawn Funeral Home.
