Esther Naomi Houk

January 21, 1935 — June 3, 2022

Esther Naomi Houk, age 87, passed away June 3, 2022, in Kansas City, Missouri. Naomi was born on January 21, 1935, in Goodrich, Kansas, to Maurice Grant Richardson and Velma Lucille Brownback Richardson.

As a child, she and her parents lived in both Kansas and Missouri, with one year spent in Winona, Minnesota, before settling in Raytown, MO. She was a graduate of Raytown High School, class of 1952.

Naomi was married to Paul Warren Houk, on December 29, 1956. They made their home in Raytown, MO for all their 64 years of marriage where they raised their four children. She was a member of the Connection Point Church in Raytown, MO.

Naomi was a homemaker and worked for 20 years as the Nursery Coordinator at First Baptist Church of Raytown. She devoted her life to her family and home. It was a lively household and she ushered everyone to church, to band concerts, to sporting events, and girl scouts and boy scouts.

Naomi enjoyed bowling, gardening, scrapbooking, and reading. After she and her husband retired, they spent time traveling and camping in warmer climates, attending NASCAR races, and enjoying special events like the Gospel Music Festival in Osage Beach, MO each year. Another fun pastime for Naomi was sports. She loved baseball, football, and college basketball.

Naomi will most be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love for her family, and for the friendships she cherished. Her optimism and positive outlook were her trademarks. She touched the lives of people by the cards she sent, the prayers she prayed, her kind words and encouragement, and the love of God which showed in all she did.

She often said that she had lived a blessed life. Blessed with a marriage of 64 years and a wonderful family. She also reminded us that if the Lord was calling her home, she was at peace with it because she knew where she was going. Naomi made the world a more beautiful place and she is eternally loved and missed by those who knew her.

Naomi is survived by her children: Ken Houk of Fruitport, MI; Linda Myers (Randy) of Kansas City, MO; Sandy Clements (Bob) of Liberty, MO; and Donnie (Sherry) Houk of Liberty, MO; Sister, Cheryl (Richard) McKenzie of Belton, MO; Nephews and Nieces: Jack Johnson (Barb) of Lincoln, MO, Cheryl (Dwayne) Weinberg, of Cole Camp, MO, Danny Johnson of Lincoln, MO and Kim Hernandez of Raymore, MO. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by Husband Paul Houk, Grandson Tanner Kapp, Nephew Scott McKenzie and Parents Maurice and Lucille Richardson.
