David Edward Hurtado, 85, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. St. Lukes Hospice provided David with quality, comfort care until his final hour. Funeral services will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home at 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138 on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Viewing at noon, service follows at 1pm. David will be cremated per his wishes, a private memorial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri at a later date.
David was born July 9, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Gudelia and Antonio Hurtado who preceded him in death, along with brothers Raymond Hurtado, John Hurtado, Antonio Hurtado and Charlie Luna. David graduated high school at Boys Town, in Nebraska and was a veteran of the United State Marine Corp. David married Lydia Hurtado on September 30, 1960 in Kansas City, Kansas. They both are proud of their humble beginnings, where David supported his young family by working at Mount Olivet Cemetery where he retired after 40 years. David proudly acknowledged he was a “gravedigger”, however he retired as a Foreman at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Survivors include wife, Lydia Hurtado, children, Roy Hurtado (Kay), Rachel Labrado (Jesus) Melissa Hurtado (Jeffrey) and grandchildren, Anthony Hurtado, Drew Hurtado, Renee Ojeda (Johnny), Dominik Ledesma and mother of Anthony and Drew, Terri Hurtado. Siblings, Henry Hurtado, Cecelia Hurtado, Joe Hurtado, Ralph Luna, John Luna and Jessie Luna.
David was a high spirited individual, always claiming he was Indian! He loved attending family sporting events and watching the KC Chiefs play. It was always exciting to listen to David’s cheering and vibrant reviews of the game. David enjoyed dancing with his wife Lydia and being the life of the party!
