Doris J. Ives

November 13, 1936 — September 20, 2020

Doris J. Ives, 83, of Prairie Village, Kansas went to be with the Lord, Sunday September 20, 2020, while at home with family. There will be a graveside service at 2 PM Thursday September 24th, 2020 at Park Lawn Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, MO 64138.

Doris was born November 13, 1936 in Decaturville, Mo. to Curtis Cross and Flossie Elizabeth Cross, 2nd daughter and 3rd child of the Cross family. Doris accepted Christ as young girl and was baptized by Pastor Joe Porter at the Spring Valley Baptist Church. Doris is a graduate of Paseo High School class of 1954. Doris was married to David A Ives August 21, 1955 under an apple tree across the Kansas state line because David got a marriage license for Kansas but the church they intended to be married in was in Missouri. Must have been fun to pack everyone up to move the service.

Two years after David & Doris married, they had a daughter, Jacquelyn (Jaci). Doris felt it was best to stay at home for the first few years of her daughter’s life. After Jaci started school Doris worked a couple of different jobs to help with the family income. When Jaci started Junior High, Doris & David thought it best to put Jaci in Kansas City Christian School where Doris worked in the school office for a year to help with the tuition. In 1972 Doris was offered a position as a Chiropractic Assistant for Dr. Max Burton. She had found her calling, she thoroughly loved helping people and learning the homeopathic way of life. She continued to work almost 20 years for Dr. Burton until his retirement. Doris retired along with David in 1994 and enjoyed traveling with family.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband David A Ives on 7/23/2020, Curtis Cross (father), Flossie Elizabeth Cross (mother), James Glenn Cross (brother).

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Jacquelyn May (Matt) of Kansas City, KS. Her sisters, Lois Hunter of Kansas City, Mo, Vicki Barber (Warren) of La Cygne, KS., Betty Kay of Niangua, Mo. and all the nieces and nephews that she loved so much.
