Jeanne “Jeannie” Marie Turner passed away on March 4th, 2024 in hospice care after swiftly declining from the effects of Parkinson’s dementia. She was 76 years old.
Jeanne was born November 14th, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Joyce Mae Donnelly and Edward Alvin Donnelly. She was the eldest child and sister to younger brother Edward (Teddy) and sister Karen.
From a young age, Jeanne was a natural leader, strong and independent, and a loving friend and nurturer to those around her. After high school, Jeanne sought a career in the medical field, combining both her natural gifts and talents. Jeanne graduated from the former Baptist Medical Center’s medical record technology program in 1974 and began her long career in medical records there, later working in a supervisory role for many years. Jeanne’s career spanned more than 30 years at multiple hospitals including Research Medical Center, and KU Medical Center, and was a source of great satisfaction for her.
Throughout her life, one major constant was Jeanne’s great love for music. From her father, a musician in his own right, she learned to appreciate music from many different genres and could often be found listening to, singing along, or dancing to jazz greats like Miles Davis and Sarah Vaughn, to the classic stylings of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, or classic R&B like Earth, Wind, & Fire and Aretha Franklin. Even Jeanne’s laugh and smile were musical, and her warmth overflowed to those around her.
After the passing of her mother, Jeanne became the matriarch of her family, ensuring to the welfare of her loved ones, nurturing them, and supporting them whenever she could. Jeanne loved to host family and friends and was happiest when her home was full of loved ones celebrating or just gathering together for any occasion. Jeanne was the life of the party and the glue that held everyone together.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her mother and father Joyce Donnelly and Edward A. Donnelly, her husband James Turner, and brother Edward T. Donnelly.
Jeanne is survived by her sister Karen Freeman, nephew John Donnelly, her niece Kristen Donnelly, step-daughter Shanetta Turner-Price, step-granddaughters RaShea Manning and DeAveon Price, several step-great grandchildren, two great nieces and a nephew, cousins, in-laws, and close friends who loved Jeanne dearly. Jeanne’s light, love for her family and friends, humor, and quick wit will be sorely missed.
