Raytown

Jill McComas, age 80, of Raytown, MO, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, after a two-year battle with cancer. A dedicated educator, Jill retired from Moreland Ridge Middle School in 2015 after a rewarding career as a librarian that impacted countless students and colleagues. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and her master's degree from the University of Central Missouri.

 Jill was deeply committed to her community and was actively involved in her church, Southwood United Church of Christ, where she contributed her time and talents. She volunteered at Blue Springs Terrace and with Shepherd's Center Meals on Wheels and was a proud member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), an organization dedicated to the education of women. Jill also enjoyed participating in several book clubs and volunteered at various Blue Springs Middle School libraries.

 She is survived by her husband, Rex McComas; her sons, Greg McComas and Kevin McComas; daughter-in-law, Amy (Kevin) McComas; three grandchildren, Elliot McComas; Eliza McComas, and August McComas; granddaughter-in-law, Brett (Elliot) McComas; brother, Jim Flockencier; niece, Laura Flockencier; and nephew, David Flockencier. Jill is predeceased by her parents, Bill and Pauline Flockencier; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Flockencier, and numerous cousins. Jill will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the positive influence she had on those around her.

 A celebration of her life will be held on October 21, 2024, at 11:00, at Southwood United Church of Christ. A livestreaming option will be made available on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@thatchurchissouthwooducc). Graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southwood UCC or a charity of your choice.
