Margaret “Peggy” (Carpenter) Johnson, 78, of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, April 9th, 2020 at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, MO after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on August 23rd, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Donald W. and Charlotte J. (Edel) Carpenter.

Peggy graduated from Southeast High School in 1959. She loved to dance with her classmates and entered several partners dance contests. She was editor of her High School newspaper and loved to write. During the summers, she volunteered as a candy stripper at Research Hospital and learned her calling was to become a nurse. Peggy entered the Research School of Nursing and lived on campus. She graduated in 1962, sat for her boards, and became an RN. Peggy worked in the ICU at Research Hospital after attaining all her credentials. Peggy formed a lifelong friendship with her ICU Supervisor and this supervisor’s daughter (Margie Lyle).

In Kansas City on June, 12th, 1965, Peggy was united in marriage to Dr. Gareth R.P. Johnson. After having children, Peggy threw herself into their activities and held several leadership positions such as Bluebird Troop Leader, and President of the Raytown High School PTA. Later, she developed her interests in classical music and various composers’ historical background, square dancing (The Hickory Kickers), gardening (roses), Nubian goats, the arts offered at the Nelson Museum, the Neo-Classics Club at the Nelson, volunteering at the Loose Park Rose Garden, volunteering in the Roselle Court at the Nelson, and membership at Quality Hill Playhouse. She was a member of The United Methodist Church in Raytown.

Peggy was known for her superior organization skills, passion for her interests or projects (always giving 100%), colorful use of language, love of her friends and dinner group pals. She loved her many animals such as her cherished pet Nubian goats, several cats and many dogs (Princess, Poker, and Kirbi) over her lifetime.

Peggy was an only child and she is survived by her husband Dr. Gareth R.P. Johnson of Kansas City, MO; son Todd W.G. Johnson of Kansas City, MO, and daughter Dana Lajoie and husband Gil of Blue Springs, MO.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27th at 1:00 pm at Summit Springs Church-1821 SW MO-7 Highway, Blue Springs, MO 64015; private burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the service, a fried chicken/baked chicken meal will be served at the home of Gil and Dana Lajoie-2601 SE 4th St., Blue Springs, MO 64014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Research Foundation (Nursing Scholarships), 2316 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64132.
