Joyce Lorraine King, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on March 22,2025 surrounded by family. Joyce was born in Scott County, Illinois on June 11, 1943. She was preceded in passing by her loving husband of 62 years, Myron Lisle King, her parents John and Lula Cloninger, siblings Robert Cloninger, Francis Nichols, James Cloninger, Barbara Ervin, Charlotte Anders, Carolyn Wild, and Marilyn Hayes. Joyce is survived by her three children Terri Bruntmyer (Allen), Shari King (Jim Bateman), Keith King (Gail Custer) and one granddaughter, Trista Ruckman. She is also survived by siblings Donald Cloninger, Ed Cloninger, Marsha Meyer and Diane Abbott.
Family was everything to Joyce and being a mother was her joy in life. Joyce loved holidays and celebrations when friends and family got together. Cooking family dinners gave her joy, and those dinners were delicious. Myron and Joyce spent many weekends laughing and making memories while camping with family and friends. Joyce loved exchanging Snap Chats with her family to stay in touch and texting her opinions with family while watching The Voice.
Joyce was a Girl Scout leader and everyone’s 2nd Mom. Always willing to be a friend and a mother. We were lucky to have her home with us until we were all in school, then Joyce worked at McDonalds until she and Myron retired. In retirement she and Myron became active at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Joyce enjoyed preparing and serving the funeral dinners and stocking the Worship Center. She and Myron continued watching the Sunday Sermon online after they were not able to attend in person.
Quilting and sewing was her favorite hobby. She hand-quilted all her quilts and we cherish them. She made holiday decorations, table runners, doll clothes, decorated sweatshirts, baby bibs, and I could go on forever. She always found new ideas and crafts to create. Joyce taught her granddaughter Trista how to sew and loved the time they shared. Her next favorite hobby was watching the Kansas City Royals games. She loved baseball season, often wearing Royals shirts to watch the games.
She will be greatly missed by her family. We especially miss how she enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays.
