Mrs. Joyce Beverly Koenig, 98, died peacefully on October 11, 2024. Joyce was the oldest of five children. She was born on July 17, 1926 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Joseph and Hilda Albright. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. Joyce married Earl Koenig in 1946. They lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until Earl retired in 1979, at which time they moved to Wascott, Wisconsin where they lived the best years of their lives.
Earl and Joyce worked hard and played even harder. They built their own retirement lake home on the Minong Flowage. Joyce enjoyed hosting holiday, bridge, and Mahjong parties and was truly an outstanding hostess.
They spent their summers boating, fishing, sailing, golfing and dancing the night away to the music of local bands. Their winters were filled with skiing, bowling, cards, and ice skating on the rink that Earl would shovel off the lake. Fall was Joyce's favorite season. Earl and Joyce would take epic long walks in the fall, including one that is now the subject of legends – an 11 mile hike to Sleepy Eye Bar and Grill for a bite to eat.
They enjoyed volunteering at their church, as well as the Wascott volunteer fire department. They also took numerous trips around the country.
Joyce was good at everything she set her mind to, whether it be sewing, knitting, crochet, crafts, woodworking, cooking, or baking to various sports, including racket ball, bowling, and golf.
They left their beloved Northern Wisconsin in 2001 to be closer to their children and grandchildren in Kansas City, MO. Her grandchildren, David and Katherine, were her pride and joy, along with the blessing of her four great-grandchildren.
Joyce was never without a dog or two and the occasional cat. Her last dog, Pete, is now spending his convalescent years with her daughter, Jody and her husband Paul.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hilda, Siblings Pauline, of Apache Junction, Arizona, Joe, of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Richard, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Hannah, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She also is preceded in death by the love of her life, Earl R. Koenig, of Kansas City, MO.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia, of Topeka, KS, her daughter, Jody (Paul) King of Kansas City, MO, 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Three Rivers Hospice for making her last weeks more comfortable.
