Juanita “Kay” Cornwell, 90, passed away Friday, June 26, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Cheryl Deis of Blue Springs, MO.

Funeral Services will be at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, MO 64138. Visitation is at 10am and Service at 11am with burial following at Park Lawn Cemetery. Lunch will be served after burial at Woods Chapel Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit, MO.

Kay was born March 22, 1934, in Princeton, MO to Earl Glen and Pearl Josephine LaFever Oswalt. Kay graduated from Princeton High school in 1952 . After graduation she moved to Trenton, MO with her sister Norma and worked at Kress.

Kay married Don Cornwell on December 4, 1955 in Trenton, MO. After marriage, they moved to Joliet, Illinois and had two daughters before moving to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1961 Kay and Don moved to Grandview, Missouri where they had three more sons. In 1971 the family moved to Raytown, Missouri. Don and Kay were divorced in 1976 and Kay continued to live in the house until 2018.From there she moved to Elliot Place in Raytown and then to The Fountains in Independence in 2022. In 2023, after declining health, Kay moved in with her daughter, Cheryl.

Kay worked at several retail jobs including Robert Hall and Montgomery Ward. She then spent over 20 years working as an office manager for two dentists, Dr. Robert Scott and Dr. Daniel Fleming. After retiring from the dental field she worked as a house keeper at Bickford House in Raytown, MO.

Kay was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Raytown, now known as Connection Point. She served as her Sunday School Treasurer and sung in the Senior Choir. She enjoyed participating in Fours Seasons Senior Group at the Christian Church. Was a member of ABWA (American Business Women's Association ) where she served in many positions.

Kay enjoyed square dancing, bowling, bingo and playing dominos. She was very friendly and polite and liked to help her friends by being the driver. Her biggest accomplishment was raising five kids as a single parent.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her children Cheryl (Ron)Deis of Blue Springs, MO, Melissa (Mike) Nason of Liberty, MO, Brad Cornwell of Fairway, Kansas, Stan Cornwell of Belton, Missouri, and Greg Cornwell of Raytown, Missouri, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Ron (Teenah) Oswalt of Chillicothe, Mo as well as other loving friends and family.
