James David Julien, 75, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully on October 9, 2019. He was a devoted husband to his wife Ruth who preceded him in death. James was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on June 24, 1944 and adopted at age two by Dorsey and Wilma Julien. A graduate of Raytown High School class of 1962, he attended Central Missouri State College at Warrensburg and worked as a welder in the Plumbers and Gas Fitters Union Local No. 8. He entered the US Army where he proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne as a First Lieutenant Combat Infantry Platoon Leader during the Vietnam War earning two Bronze Medals for bravery in combat from 1967-1969 and was a long standing member of the American Legion Post 21, the home post of Harry S. Truman. He will be honored by many for his dedication to those he served throughout the years. James enjoyed dancing, old westerns, hunting, fishing and country music. He leaves behind his beloved dogs Butch and Twiggy, his daughter Stacy Lombardo (John) and his son James Julien II (Noel), step-children, Steven Kramer, Anne Kramer Rule and Sarah Noernberg (Joe); grandchildren David, Regina, James, Nickolas, Bailie, Marty, Ellie and Nathaniel; extended family and friends. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 16th, 2019 from 12-1 p.m. at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road; Graveside service with full military honors will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.
