Mary Katherine Reffitt, 76, of Kansas City, MO, passed away at KU Medical Center on April 25, 2023. She was surrounded by her family. She fought a 3.5 year battle with cancer.
Kathy was born on January 8, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to John Joseph & Marion Elise (Schneider) Kelly. Kathy met the love of her life, Don Reffitt, when she was only 12 years old. Their first date was to Fairyland Park in Kansas City, MO. They were married on January 30, 1965 and had four children. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year.
Kathy was a full time mom until her girls were in middle school. She was very involved in PTA, and she was always a room mother. She loved taking care of “her babies”, which included her husband Don. She later began a 20 year career at Raytown Walmart where she was known as the shoe department manager and later worked in the receiving department until she retired.
Kathy loved the outdoors and would often sit outside drinking iced tea while visiting with neighbors, family and friends. Family was everything to her. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren, supporting them in all of their activities. Whenever her kids visited, she greeted them at the front door and as they parted ways it included a hug and an “I love you” as she stood at the front door watching until they were gone. Kathy loved to dance! Especially to old rock-n-roll music, “hopping” all over the dance floor. She was a big sports fan and loved the Chiefs and Nascar. She also enjoyed watching old western movies. In her younger years, she often went camping and fishing with her husband and children. She also loved visiting the casinos and made it to Las Vegas a couple of times.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Joseph Maiden, John Kelly and Robert Michael Kelly and her nephew John Michael Kelly.
Kathy is survived by her husband: Don Reffitt of Kansas City, MO; children: Don Reffitt, II of Kansas City, MO; Todd (Kim) Reffitt of Pleasant Hill, MO; Elisa (Tim) Williams of Belton, MO; Deanna (Dustin) Hills of Raytown, MO; grandchildren: Dillon (Hannah) Reffitt, Jordan (Patricia) Reffitt, James Porter, Avery Williams, Kylie Hills, Kynadie Hills, James Williams, Chase Hills and Kassidy Hills; four great grandchildren, numerous brothers in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
