Kelly, Robert

April 19, 1953 — July 11, 2022

Robert Allen (Bob) Kelly, 69, of Liberty, Mo., passed away July 11 after a long bout with cancer.

Bob is survived by his wife of 43 years Marianne; daughter Susanne; son Stephen and his wife, Katy; and three grandchildren, Laine, Anderson and Turner. He is the brother of Tim and Lester Kelly and sisters Doris Stevenson and Kathy McBride. He was preceded in death by an older sister, Sharon, and his parents, Lester and May Louise Kelly.

He will be greatly missed by a large Northland community. Bob lived his entire life in the area, graduating from Liberty High School in 1971, and attended Southwest Missouri State and William Jewell College, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. This led to a nearly 40-year career in the banking industry, serving as compliance manager and auditor for a number of area banks including Commerce, UMB, Bank of Blue Valley, BankLiberty and First Federal Bank of Kansas City. He retired in April 2021. Bob was a mentor to many and will be remembered as always being cheerful, kind, caring and “truly genuine,” recalls Lacey Weimhold, a longtime colleague and friend.

His family also saw the “compliance man” as the artist who could create fanciful characters and doodles that delighted his children and grandchildren.

But it was his love for his church that so many will remember. He was a beloved member of Kearney Bible Church for more than 35 years, serving as an elder, leading Bible study, and taking an active role in all facets of its operation. Kearney Bible’s former pastor, Chuck Johnson, called Bob his spiritual brother who taught him “the tremendous positive truth that leaders can be kind and gentle.”

A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, July 16, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Visitation will follow the service until 12:00 pm. Private burial at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty.

I was saddened when I learned only this past Saturday, (July 30) on the loss of my dear friend Bob. Bob was my first roommate in the early 1970's. We attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church along with his brother Tim. Bob was a dedicated Christian. He was kind and generous. I will always remember his humor and quick wit. Bob had a million dollar smile. To me Bob was an encourager. I don't know where the years have gone, but I will truly miss him. I'm so sorry I missed his Celebration of Life service. I would have been there had I known. I want to take this time to offer my sympathy and prayers for his wife, Marianne, and his entire family. Tim, his dear brother and my cherished friend, I offer my support. Please give me a call at 816-420-9945 or text me at 816-812-7012, and to you Bob, I'm looking forward to seeing you in Heaven. Your forever friend, Jerry Powell

Bob was such a positive and Godly Christian example. I always enjoyed my conversations with him and his infectious smile. We will miss him deeply at our family gatherings but we also rejoice in knowing he is with our Heavenly Father.

This is so sad to read of Bob's passing. He was a nice man. I remember as a young adult I worked for Claycrest Golf Club in Liberty and had to take the money to the bank. Bob was just starting out as a teller then. He was so polite man. Again I was younger than 20 then. My prayers for his wife and family. May God's Love surround them.

I enjoyed working with Bob for many years at UMB and Bank of Blue Valley. He was such a genuinely nice and caring guy, and a wealth of compliance knowledge. So sorry to hear this, but it is also comforting to know that he is no longer suffering and now with the Lord. Our deepest sympathies to Bob’s family.

Worked with Bob for many years, together at UMB, and then at BankLiberty. Wonderful, decent guy who was a pleasure to work with. My deepest sympathies and prayers to his family.

I am so sorry to get the news of Bob's passing. He was a wonderful neighbor for so many years. Our children grew up in the neighborhood and went to school together. You are out of pain and suffering and are in hands of our Lord. Hallelujah!

I worked with Bob at First Federal Bank. I can't find the words to describe how much I enjoyed working with him both personally and professionally. In our brief time as colleagues I learned many things from him - his humor, intelligence, and steady hand were truly inspiring. He definitely made his mark on this world and the people who loved him. My deepest condolences to you all.
