John William Kennish, 75, of North Kansas City, died August 17, 2021 at Anthology of Burlington Creek, following a long battle with Parkinson's. He passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side.
John was born February 21, 1946, in Utica, NY, the middle of three sons of James and Dorothy (Cockerill) Kennish. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his older brother Jim.
John grew up in Utica, NY, and graduated from Utica Free Academy. He attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO, on a football scholarship, eventually earning his Bachelor's and two Master's degrees.
John's career in Law Enforcement and Security spanned four decades. This included working as an Officer for Kansas City Police Department, Security Director for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Vice President of Security for Commerce Bank, and finally in Westbrook, CT, working as a Private Security Consultant and as Safety Director for Connecticut Light and Power Company. John retired to the North Kansas City area to live near his family.
Survivors include his daughter and her partner, Christine Kennish and David Hodges; grandson, Henry Hodges; and John's companion, Pamela Brooks. He also leaves his younger brother Charles; as well as other family members and friends.
