Stanley Howard King, 84, of Independence, Mo, passed away at home with his family by his side on Friday, March 11, 2022 after a brief progressive illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16th at 10AM to 11AM, with funeral services immediately following, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, Mo. Stanley was born Tuesday, November 2, 1937, son to Vonda Vivian (Price) and William Preston King, in a farmhouse near Walker, Mo. Stanley grew up on a farm outside of Schell City and went to grade school in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Schell City High School in 1956. He moved to Kansas City in the late 50’s to be near his brothers and sisters. His first job opportunity was at Research Hospital in Kansas City and throughout his life he held several jobs ranging from self-employment in Maintenance. He married Carol Sue Capps in 1960 in Kansas City MO where they raised 1 son and 4 daughters.
Throughout his life Stanley loved playing the guitar, dobro (steel guitar), banjo, and loved to sing and play in several bluegrass and church bands. He also had a special talent of yodeling.
Stanley was preceded in death by Carol Sue King (wife), William Preston King (father), Vonda Vivian King (mother), Donald Ray King (brother), Ruth Elaine Harris (sister), Richard Eugene King (brother), Margaret Mae Murphy (sister), William Preston King Jr (grandson). He is survived by his children: William King, Karen Nolan, Kimberly King, Kerrie King, Kellie (James) Williams; and his sister, Betty King. Stanley is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
