Linda Loree Kort, age 78, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at home.
Because we were not able to do a proper celebration of life for Dennis when he passed in 2020, it was her wish that we do a combined celebration of life for her and Dennis. Details to follow.
Linda was born June 16, 1944 to Glen and Bertha Thomas in Cowles, NE. She was the only girl surrounded by her 4 brothers. They enjoyed many childhood adventures and remained close throughout their lives. Although there was a fair amount of teasing, her brothers adored her and she them.
She graduated from Blue Hill High School and went on to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
She met the love of her life, Dennis Kort, when she was a teenager and they were married on December 21, 1963. The two of them left Nebraska to start a new adventure in Kansas City, Missouri where Dennis attended Missouri Institute of Technology.
She dedicated 19 years to Martin City Elementary. First as PTA President and then as a teacher’s aid/para and library clerk before she retired in 1998. She then dedicated her time to being grandma and caregiver for her three granddaughters.
Her & Dennis spent many years volunteering at the Matin City VFW from running the bar to organizing steak dinners to many other events.
She was a dedicated fan of Nebraska football and loved tailgating and going to home games with her brothers. During away games you could find her yelling at the TV rooting for her Huskers.
Later in life, her & Dennis enjoyed many years of being “winter Texans” by spending winters at Victoria Palms Resort in Donna, Texas.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed feeding as many people as she could, spending time with friends, shopping, reading, going to garage sales and traveling but her favorite pastime was, without a doubt, was spoiling her grandchildren.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dennis Kort; her brothers Bruce and Buren Thomas. She is survived by her brothers Dale Thomas (Linda) of Lincoln, NE and Bob Thomas (Angie) of Hastings, NE; her sons, Steven Kort of Kansas City, MO; Robert Kort (Kerry) of Kansas City, MO; and Mitchell Kort (Amy) of Raymore, MO; her grandchildren Anthony, Kelsey, Madison and Grace Kort.
