Sampson N. Krist

July 3, 1927 — March 4, 2019

Sampson N. Krist, 91, passed away March 4, 2019.  Sampson was born July 3, 1927 to Nick and Almeda Krist where his family owned St. Elmos Hotel at 4th and Wyandotte and half a Confectioners Shop on 4th and Delaware. His family moved from Kansas City to Charity, MO then back to 103rd and Summit. Sammy had one brother and three sisters: Della Boggs, June Nicoloff and Oneda who all have passed to be with the Lord. Sammy never married but he helped raise eleven nieces and nephews. He graduated from Ruskin High Schoolin 9147 and was on their first football team in 1946. From then, Sammy went to the Korean War where he was one of the first troops to go into North Korea. When he returned to the US, he was in New York where he became one of the biggest New York Yankees and Micky Mantle fans. He got to see several games.

When he came back home, he worked for Allied Signal, Bendix and Honeywell for a total of 56 ½ years until he retired in April of 2008. Sammy loved fishing all over with family and friends and he loved his buddies, dogs and vacations all over the US from Disneyland and Yellowstone Park.

Sammy is survived by nieces and nephews Bill, Mallory and wife Mary, Darlene Grider, Mike Nicolaff and Alex Nicolaff and wife Linda, a great niece Susie Gardner and husband Kenny and 3 great great nephews and niece Shane Grimm and wife Tiffany, Shannon Grimm King and Jesse Grimm and wife Stephanie and 13 great great great nieces and nephews. He will always be loved and greatly missed. He was our rock.

Sammy was preceded in death by a niece Kathryn Ware, a nephew Jospeh Mallory and a great nephew Donald Lowers Grimm, Jr. along with his siblings.

We would also like to thank Ascend Hospice for all the love and support they gave to Sammy and our family.

Visitation will be 5-7PM, Friday, March 8 with services at 1130AM, Saturday, March 9, both at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd.; burial with military honors to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
