Larry Joe Lane

May 24, 1941 — November 5, 2023

Kansas City

Larry Joe Lane, 82, of Kansas City, MO, passed away due to complications from dementia on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Larry was born in Mercer, MO, on May 24, 1941, to Ned and Jesse Fern (Ragan) Lane.  He was raised in a large and loving farm family who helped him become the kind and selfless person he was.  He graduated from Mercer High School in 1959.  Larry was united in marriage to Linda Sue Stark on July 21, 1962, in Davenport, Iowa, at the Calvary Assembly of God Church.

Larry’s nearly 45-year career in the printing and business forms industry took him through four states that began with Star Forms in Bettendorf, IA, and included Burroughs Corp in Kirksville, MO, Datagraphics in Irving, TX, Ward-Kraft in Fort Scott, KS, and Witt Printing in El Dorado Springs, MO.

In his younger days he, along with his brother Bob and nephew Clarence, had four race cars and spent a lot of time together drag racing in the Midwest.

Larry and Linda retired to Liberty, MO, where he spent time caring for two old Thunderbird cars in a detached garage behind the house where his automotive collectibles were displayed.

Larry and Linda enjoyed their trips to Branson, MO, in the fall.  They also loved the bus trips through various parts of the country.  His greatest love was spending time with family during the holidays.  He came from a large family and enjoyed the Lane Reunions at Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, MO, where he was able to see and spend time with siblings.  He and Linda attended church services for many years at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where he volunteered to serve as a greeter.

From an early age to when he died Larry was always a fan of sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. He was also a fan of the Royals and became a fan of the Dallas Mavericks when the family moved to Texas in their 1980-81 inaugural season.  He also enjoyed following the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

Larry is survived by his wife Linda Lane of Kansas City, MO, son Edward Lane (Brenda Ritz), Denton, TX, and daughters Shelly Hearst (Robert Hearst), Colleyville, TX, and Christina Lane, Kansas City, MO.

He is also survived by his granddaughter Cassondra Rosner (Nathan Rosner) of Kansas City, MO, and grandson Forrest Hearst of North Richland Hills, TX, and great grandchildren Owen and Charleigh Rosner of Kansas City, MO.  His surviving siblings are Frances Wahl (Harley Wahl) of Glenaire, MO, and Mary Lou Arnold of Eldridge, IA.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ned and Fern Lane; brothers Herb Lane, Harold Lane, Bill Lane, Jim Lane, Frank Lane and Bob Lane; sisters Katherine (Lane) Berger, Janet (Lane) Elsey, June (Lane) Shockey, and Ann (Lane) Young; sisters-in-law Cleo Lane, Lena Lane and Judy Lane; brothers-in-law Bob Young, Clarence Overholtzer, Harold Elsey and Bob Arnold; nephews Jerome “Lucky” Lane, Allen Berger, Paul Berger and Clarence Overholtzer, JR., and niece Jean (Elsey) Dibble.

Larry’s family would especially like to thank the staff at the North Kansas City Hospital Hospice Ward for providing him comfort in his final days.
