Laura Jeanine Miller

August 27, 1936 — June 14, 2024

Laura Jeanine Miller, 87, of Blue Springs, Missouri, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on June 14th, 2024, peacefully at home with her family.

She was born at the family home on August 27th, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles B. and Ople L. (Bailey) Johnson. She was the fifth of six children.

Laura was united in marriage to George Miller on June 15th, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri and resided in Kansas City in a house that they built, for many years before moving to Grain Valley and then Blue Springs.

Laura had two children, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren and was very proud of them.

Laura was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church in Blue Springs, Missouri.

One of her fondest memories growing up was cutting out paper dolls from catalogs with her younger sister Janice and lining them up on the couch, where they took turns leading them in hymns and preaching to them like a church service. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was very proud that her grandfather was a preacher. He would travel to surrounding communities on horseback to fill the pulpit when the preachers were absent.

She also loved this country and remembered celebrating the 4th of July with her family, fireworks, soda pop, watermelon, and homemade Ice cream. One of her favorite songs was “God Bless America.”

Laura graduated from Central High School, Kansas City, Missouri in 1954. Her first job was a night job at Hallmark Cards while still in school. After graduation, she remained with Hallmark Cards as an inspector. After taking time off to raise her son she took a job at Western Electric as an inspector. She later took a seasonal keypunch position at the Internal Revenue Service while raising her daughter, before taking a full-time position as a secretary until she retired.

She enjoyed hosting family dinners on holidays and spending time with her family. In retirement she enjoyed camping with her friends, attending her grandsons’ baseball games and her great granddaughters’ activities.

Laura is survived by her husband George, son Kevin (Jannett) of Kingsville, Missouri, daughter Krista McCracken of Portland, Oregon, grandsons Jeremy (Cassie) and Matthew (Kristi) of Kingsville, Missouri, great grandchildren Emma, Abby, and Ashley Miller, sister Janice (Bill) Barrie of Branson, and sister-in-law Mary Lou Johnson of Lee’s Summit, several nieces, nephews and loving family friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ella Lee Crawford, Betty Feutz, Norma Jean Johnson, and brother Kenneth Johnson.
