Laura J. Zimmerman

Laura Jean Zimmerman, age 77, of Raymore, MO, passed away August 31, 2024.

Laura was born on November 25, 1946, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, to Jack and Edith (Humbard) Peters, and grew up on a farm in Milo, Missouri. She was a 1964 graduate of Nevada High School.

Laura met the love of her life, Charles Zimmerman, in 1962 and married him on November 14, 1964, in Nevada, Missouri. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in November.

Laura was an amazing stay-at-home mom for many years and then started her career at Hallmark Cards, Inc., displaying her wonderfully creative skills. She retired in 1999 and began her next career of helping raise her grandchildren.

Laura was a very caring woman and had an unbelievable love for her family. They were her passion, along with crafting and cooking. She also had the special ability to spread great kindness everywhere she went.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; her son, Russell Zimmerman; her daughter, Carrie Zimmerman; her grandchild, Emileane (Zachary) Morgan; Lauren (Cole) Connor; Caitlyn (Hunter) Thompson; and Blake Shelnutt; and her great-grandchildren, Lawson, Kellen and Gannon Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Edith Peters; her brother, Gary Strain; and her grandson, Brett Kearney. Laura’s legacy of love will continue to spread within all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Laura at Park Lawn Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, Missouri, at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm. She will then be laid to rest at Green Lawn Cemetery.

As we gather to remember her, we will reflect on the joys, laughter, and love that she generously shared with all of us. Laura will forever hold a special place in our hearts, guiding us with her spirit as we continue on our paths, cherishing all the memories we made together.
