It is with heavy hearts and a dash of humor that we farewell to the one and only Lawrence Edwin Drake, Jr. – a man who lived a life as vibrant his personality. Born on September 6, 1950, in Cameron, Missouri, Larry’s journey came to an end on August 9, 2024, in Kansas City, MO, after bravely battling cancer for a year. He is known for his dedication and sense of humor, he led a colorful life filled with tales that brought laughter to all who knew him.
Larry graduated from Northeast High school. During his 41-year career at BNSF Larry took pride in his work as a Signal Inspector. His commitment to the job was unwavering, often getting called out through the late hours of the night, all while awaiting that crucial call to have to go out again. His dedication did not go unnoticed, as he received numerous awards throughout his tenure. The guys remember him as a reliable and hardworking individual who approached his job with a sense of duty and purpose.
In 1969, Larry tied the knot with his beloved Sharon, with whom he built a home that stood the test of time. Together, they created a lifetime of memories that will live on. The couple had three daughters, Staci, Jamie and Kari. His proudest accomplishments revolved around his role as a devoted grandpa. Family was his top priority always taking care them.
Described as having a outgoing, funny, witty, and loving personality, Larry never failed to leave a lasting impression. He had a knack for making friends wherever he went, never meeting a stranger he couldn't charm with his quick wit and infectious humor. Outside of work, Larry found joy in various interests. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, mowing the lawn and tinkering in the garage, he always had a project on the go; but he always made time to watch his hummingbirds on his deck.
Larry leaves behind his wife Sharon Drake; daughters Staci (Daniel) Curley, Jamie Montemayor, Kari Peteanu; grandkids Caroline Curley, Ayden Peteanu, Owen Curley, Harper Montemayor; sisters Mary Clark, Betty (Gordon) Stanfield, Donna (Larry) Wisely; and many nieces and nephews.
From As we prepare to say our final goodbyes, a visitation will be held on August 23, 2024, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, MO. Let us gather to honor the life, laughter, and love that he brought into our lives.
