George Gerald Lewis

George Gerald Lewis, 75, of Pleasant Valley, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2019, at Pleasant Valley Manor. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service celebrating George's life at 10:30 am, on Sunday, November 10, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Liberty. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

George was born April 20, 1944, in Denver, Colorado. He moved to Slater, MO, and later to the Kansas City Northland before retiring to Hermitage, MO at Pomme de Terre Lake. Following the death of his wife of 48 years, Mary (Dunsmore) Lewis, in 2011, he returned to Pleasant Valley to live near his family.

George was a retired mechanic for Consolidated Freight Lines and member of the IAM-Teamsters. He attended Grace Church in Independence, and enjoyed anything outdoors, especially, golf, camping and fishing.

Along with his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents, Murray "Bill" Lewis and Anna (Switzer) Montgomery; and siblings, Arch, Murray and Lois. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David and Ruth Lewis; grandchildren, Brad Thurston (April) and Hannah Layne (Tony); great grandsons, Chase, James and John Thurston; sister, Dottie Davis (Don); and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, especially his best friend and companion, Diana Toney and her family.

Service Information:

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service celebrating George’s life at 10:30 am, on Sunday, November 10, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Liberty. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery.
