Bruce James Lindsey passed away Wednesday, June 26th, 2019, at St. Joseph Medical Center surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis and diabetes.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, James Lyman Lindsey; mother, Lois Borgeson Lindsey; and his sister, Janet Sue Lindsey.
He is survived by his daughters: Lauren "Chippers" Lindsey, of Leawood, KS, Meredith "Little Crab" Lindsey-Gregg and her husband Jon Gregg of Olathe, KS., Grace "Little Beanie" Lindsey of Leawood, KS.; his sister, Joann Folsom of Lenexa, KS; and his former spouse, Sheila Gill of Leawood, KS.
From jazz music to guns, knives and westerns, Bruce was a true expert and aficionado; an avid and lifelong Boy Scout and outdoorsman, Bruce was a proud graduate of UMKC, Eagle Scout and dedicated member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, where he spent many summers as the Rifle Master at Bartle Boy Scout Camp. His dedication and expertise with firearms lead him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps, where he was awarded for his abilities and given the rank of Lance Corporal. A former on-air news reporter and assignment desk editor at WDAF FOX 4 News, Bruce was known all over for cultivating sources and his uncanny ability to break a big news story. His deep baritone voice, boisterous and outgoing personality, penchant for distributing particular nicknames and his capacity to make lifelong friendships made him all the more unique. To say Bruce was one of a kind would be an understatement, for they truly broke the mold when they made him. He was a beloved father, dedicated friend and he (and especially his sense of humor!) will be sorely missed.
