Anne N. (Newton) Loar, 86, of Grandview, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd. Kansas City, MO 64138. A visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
Anne was born August 20, 1936, in Olmstead, KY; the daughter of James Newton and Isabelle (Bailey) Newton. Raised in a farming community, Anne had a different set of goals for herself. She attended the University of Kentucky in the early 1950s as one of the first women to enroll in the business school and accounting program and where she earned her Bachelor’s of Business and Accounting Degree. After college, Anne worked at Fort Campbell, KY where she later met and married J. Robert (Bob) Loar. Anne had two children; a son, R. Granville Loar, and a daughter, Sarene (Loar) Bourdages.
Anne moved to Kansas City, MO in 1964 and began working in the finance department of Trans World Airlines (TWA). Upon the birth of Sarene, she took a break from the corporate world and spent time raising her two children, eventually returning to the workplace where she last worked as the accountant and office manager for Blue Hills Country Club in South Kansas City. She retired from Blue Hills after a 24-year tenure.
Anne spent time volunteering throughout her adult life. She was deeply involved in the Ruskin High School Band program – assisting with fundraising and booster support. While the children were in college, Anne supported her children’s fraternity and sorority events and was always involved in programs that supported her children and their interests.
Anne enjoyed extensive travel, great food, live music and theater and spending time with her family and friends. But her passion was sports. She loved the Chiefs and don’t even think about talking to her during a college basketball game. An avid supporter of University of Missouri and Kentucky basketball teams (and, somewhat grudgingly, Duke University), Anne could be found in front of a television or radio from fall through March Madness. She was pretty lucky with some of her brackets too. Anne also had a huge heart for her four-legged furry family and cherished the companionship and love that her dogs shared with her. Her eyes would light up when she was around her pets and their tails were always wagging.
Survivors include her ex-husband, Robert Loar; son, Granville Loar; and daughter, Sarene Bourdages.
