Tilda was born on May 22, 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri to Fred “Henry” Lewis and Eleanore Marilyn (Andersen) Lewis. She grew up in Kansas City MO, and then moved to Lee’s Summit MO. She graduated from Center Senior High School class of 1984 where she played flute in the concert and marching bands. She worked full-time at Farmers Insurance and attended college part-time for twelve years to complete her Bachelor’s degree in English from UMKC in 1998.
Tilda worked at Farmers from 1985 until leaving in 1999 to focus on raising her children. She was very active in the Westview PTA, including stints as President, Historian, and Yearbook Chair and several years as Treasurer. She enjoyed volunteering for the school in the library, in the school office, and in classrooms helping younger children learn to read. She later worked as a substitute for the Lee’s Summit school district in various school libraries, offices, and helping with playground monitoring. She was active in Girl Scouts as a child, and later served for many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and service unit volunteer. She also recently worked as a professional tutor for North Central Missouri College.
Tilda enjoyed reading, creative writing, and crafts of all kinds including sewing, knitting, and weaving, but her greatest love was teaching and working with children. She was very proud of her own five children, and often met or pointed out young adults around Lee’s Summit that she remembered from her time volunteering and working in schools. She also liked spending time with family, whether traveling together, camping, singing and dancing, or just sitting and talking with them for hours. We were blessed to have her with us.
