Tilda was born on May 22, 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri to Fred “Henry” Lewis and Eleanore Marilyn (Andersen) Lewis. She grew up in Kansas City MO, and then moved to Lee’s Summit MO. She graduated from Center Senior High School class of 1984 where she played flute in the concert and marching bands. She worked full-time at Farmers Insurance and attended college part-time for twelve years to complete her Bachelor’s degree in English from UMKC in 1998.

Tilda worked at Farmers from 1985 until leaving in 1999 to focus on raising her children. She was very active in the Westview PTA, including stints as President, Historian, and Yearbook Chair and several years as Treasurer. She enjoyed volunteering for the school in the library, in the school office, and in classrooms helping younger children learn to read. She later worked as a substitute for the Lee’s Summit school district in various school libraries, offices, and helping with playground monitoring. She was active in Girl Scouts as a child, and later served for many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and service unit volunteer. She also recently worked as a professional tutor for North Central Missouri College.

Tilda enjoyed reading, creative writing, and crafts of all kinds including sewing, knitting, and weaving, but her greatest love was teaching and working with children. She was very proud of her own five children, and often met or pointed out young adults around Lee’s Summit that she remembered from her time volunteering and working in schools. She also liked spending time with family, whether traveling together, camping, singing and dancing, or just sitting and talking with them for hours. We were blessed to have her with us.

I will deeply miss my sweet sister in law Tilda, who created a beautiful family with my brother. She was such an amazing Mother, thoughtful of her whole family, comforting to have an honest talk with, and so kind in all of her many activities. Love you Tilda.

My prayers go out to Tilda's family. She was such an important part of Girls Scouts and help lead by example. She would always do her best to be their for our service unit and especially all of the girls. She has help many girls over the years in Scouts. She was an inspiration to all girls and adults in all that she did and was always willing to help or mentor them. She is missed. I pray that her husband and kids are comforted by God in this most difficult time. Peace and blessing to all.

I just don't know what to say. Tilda was such an amazing, loving person. We all had some great times during our Farmers days. I feel so bad not keeping in touch as much over the years. Going to miss her dearly. I love you all.

I know you had a community waiting to greet you, but I am a member of the community that wished you hadn't joined them so soon. I love you, and you will live on in the hearts of me and many others.

My heart hurts with this news, Tilda was a good friend, volunteering at her kids' schools doing everything from PTA fundraisers to working in the library and classrooms, always with kindness. She was always my "go-to" person, I could count on her being there whether to volunteer or just be a listening ear. Hugs and prayers to all of you.

Nancy Lewis
