Lonnie F. Matney, 77, passed away September 30, 2023.

Lonnie grew up in South Missouri. He attended West Plains high school where he met Cheryl Nicks, they graduated together with the class of 1963. Upon graduation Lonnie joined the army. During a weekend pass, Lonnie and Cheryl married on the September 16th 1964 at the church of Christ on curry street in west Plains Missouri. After spending a year in Hawaii Lonnie shipped to Vietnam for 14 months. He spent a brief time in Germany, then was stationed in Fort Hood Texas for the remainder of his service. 

Lonnie and Cheryl moved to the Kansas City Area in the early 1970s. Lonnie hauled cars for Allied transport for Ford Motor Company, his favorite Job was working for Flatbed express. For the last several years Lonnie was a member of the 39th street Church of Christ in Independence Missouri.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl, three daughters, Angela Coursey and husband Wally, Rebecca Hockman and husband Dan, Hollie McKinney and husband Steve. He was grandpa to 4 grandchildren, James Cody Cogdill, Joshua Cole Matney, Meagan Taylor Walz, Brayden Hollis McKinney, three great grandchildren, Jack, Tilly, and Dakota. 

He also leaves behind his sister in law Norma Hagan, Kay Nicks, brother in Law James R. Nicks, and nephew Don Hagan and wife Lalani Hagan, two great nieces Ashley and Brittany, as well as many friends and neighbors. 

The family of Lonnie Matney would like to say thank you for all the acts of love and kindness shown to them. 

Visitation will be 9:30AM, with services to follow at 10:30AM, Friday, October 6 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude.
