David Louis

July 26, 1950 — July 19, 2022

David Louis, 71, of Grandview, fell asleep in death on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, at the Kansas City Hospice House. He was born on July 26th, 1950, in Dundee, Mississippi, to Clarence and Beatrice Louis. He was the second oldest of nine children. David was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jessie Mae Gladney, and brother William Edward Louis.

At 5 years old, he and the family moved to the Kansas City area where he received his education and graduated from Central High School in 1968. He met and fell in love with Wilda Williams, and on May 2nd, 1970, they were married. To this union four children were born: Erika, Leslie, Lauren, and David Z. Following high school, he worked at the Kansas City Star, the United States Post Office, and then he was accepted into the IBEW 124 Electrician’s four-year Apprenticeship. He graduated as a Journeyman electrician on June 2nd, 1976. His work as an electrician spanned over 30 years.

David dedicated his life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 8th, 1972. He had a deep love and appreciation for spiritual things and was often found at the kitchen table reading and studying the Bible. He served as a Christian elder in the Hillcrest congregation for over 20 years. He was well-known for being humble, mild-mannered, approachable, and easy-going.

To his family, he was more than a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle – He was the consummate friend. He was the patriarch of his family and you could always rely and depend on him. By his loved ones, he was called Bubba, Bean, Man-Son, and PawPaw by his grandchildren. His hobbies included crossword puzzles and collecting coins, especially quarters and pennies. He was knowledgeable and enjoyed learning about the wonders of creation and the universe. He was well-informed about many subjects, but he was not boastful about it. He also enjoyed watching cowboy pictures, old comedies, and sci-fi.

David leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Wilda, three daughters, Erika E. Daniels (Quentin), Leslie M. Perry (Clinton), Lauren A. Burt (Kacy), and one son David Z. Louis (Miranda); three sisters, Dorothy Louis, Emily Lewis, Jewel; three brothers, Joseph Louis, Robert Louis, and Jeffrey; eight grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
