Lucie Dean Riggs, 64, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Truman University Health Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, following a brief, unexpected illness. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 N. State Route 291, Liberty, MO 64068. A visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born August 27, 1959 in Richmond, MO, to Dinelia Dean Cox Riggs and Lucian LaVerre Riggs. She was a 1977 graduate of Winnetonka High School and earned a degree in accounting from Kansas City Business College.
Ms. Riggs worked at Cy Rudnick’s Fabrics at Crown Center for over 20 years and had been employed by Metro Title/Acertus for the past 10 years. At work she loved problem solving and assisting others to help achieve the common good.
Those who were blessed to know Lucie enjoyed her quick wit and knew her as a source of encouragement. She loved to talk with others and would always strive to offer an encouraging word or would immediately stop and pray with someone in need. Lucie’s interests were wide and varied. She had a knack for sewing & fashion, although after the fabric store, she just wanted to wear black shirts and jeans. She loved knitting and combined that with a caring heart for those around her by donating knitted baby hats to local hospitals. She was passionate about the Veterans Community Project, where she donated knitted hats & scarves for the veterans and coordinated with her work family and friends to be able to make a bigger donation than she could make on her own.
Lucie liked true crime podcasts. Her jam was disco music, Journey, The Bee Gees, and she listened to the Polyester Power Hour with her coworkers every Friday. She looked forward to TV and dinner nights with Mandi, including the occasional after-work drive to Lawrence to get a burger. Lucie loved cooking and took Lucie Joe’s to every gathering. Her favorite was Mexican food, and she could literally eat it for three meals a day. She was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and would talk football with anyone who listened. She loved road trips, especially to the mountains in Colorado and Santa Fe, where in years past she often vacationed.
Lucie lived a full and colorful life filled with love, laughter, family, friends, and magnificent memories.
She was preceded in death by parents, Dinelia & Lucian Riggs, and dogs Trixie, Lizzie, and Chelsea.
Lucie is survived by her beloved daughter, Amanda “Mandi” Dean Riggs of Kansas City, MO; cousin, Linda Kelch of Dallas TX; and countless friends.
If so desired, contributions may be made to the family to help defray funeral and medical expenses or to Veterans Community Project (www.veteranscommunityproject.org).
