Our beloved Becky
July 3, 1948 – December 1, 2024
Mary Rebecca Grant, lovingly known as Becky, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 76, in her home in Kansas City, Missouri.
Becky was born July 3, 1948, in Kansas City to Jefferson O. Ballew and Mabel Eveline Singleton. A proud graduate of Raytown South High School in 1966, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri Central University in 1970 and a Master’s in Missions from Sauk Village Baptist College in 1995.
Becky’s passion for education and helping others was reflected in her professional and personal life. She held a Life-Time Teaching Certificate in Missouri and additional certificates in Administration, Law, and Communication Development. Her dedication to service extended to her roles at the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, Mt. Sinai Parenting Institute, and John Marshall Law School programs. She served as Co-Director of the Gospel League Home at Pacific Garden Mission, bringing hope and support to countless individuals. Most recently, she worked at City Union Mission in Kansas City as the Community Assistance Administrator, where her leadership and compassion continued to inspire those she served.
Becky had many interests and talents, including sewing, quilting, cooking, financial planning, reading, writing, teaching, and counseling. She enjoyed sports, particularly softball, and she was a gifted crafter, bringing joy to those around her, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jefferson O. Ballew and Mabel Eveline Singleton, her sister Opal Lungsford, and her brothers Orville, William, and Gerald Ballew. Becky leaves behind her devoted husband, Cecil Gordon Grant; her beloved son, Jeremy Bennett Grant; and her cherished granddaughters, Ashley Jordan Grant and Anne Marie Grant. She is also survived by her brothers Mike and Chuck Ballew and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.
A funeral service to celebrate Becky’s life will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Homes on Monday, December 9, 2024. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by the service at 1:00 PM.

Becky’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose legacy of love and service will live on.
