Mary E. Morgan, 90, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy Country Home in Liberty, Missouri. She was born in Colbert, Oklahoma to Vertie S. (Barnes) Hallisey and Daniel T. Hallisey III. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John W. Morgan, infant son Charles R. Morgan, daughter Mary P. Morgan, sister Ellen (Hallisey) Winslow and three brothers Robert Keeney, Charles Puryer and Daniel T. Hallisey IV.
She is survived by her youngest daughter Linda M. Enderle, son John W. Morgan Jr. (Marilyn), granddaughter Olivia Enderle, grandsons John Morgan III (Deborah), Jason Morgan and Logan Enderle (Hannah), three grandsons Archie Morgan, Oscar Morgan and Jack Morgan, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born in Colbert, Oklahoma, inside the Choctaw Nation Reservation territory and also spent early years in the Cherokee Nation Reservation territory in Oklahoma. Early life was not easy for the family, like may living during that era. During that time her family endured the Dust Bowl Days, and those areas were near the epicenter of the hardest hit. The country was also in the middle of The Great Depression that added to the troubles of the time. Another major event was World War II...a time when staples of life were rationed to support the war effort.
Later in her teens she met and married John W. Morgan and had three children, sadly losing their first child months after being born. Much of their time together was spent at U.S. Army military base Camp Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. Late in the summer of 1959, Sgt. John W. Morgan was deployed to the 38th Parallel in Korea and lost his life in January 1960. Mary would eventually move to Raytown, Missouri.
Mary would eventually move to Raytown, Missouri. Life was considerably easier and stable for a young mother.
Mary worked as a hairdresser for many years, even having a shop in her home. She also enjoyed ceramics, painting and a variety of other crafts.....and as many know....shopping.
Later in life she was deeply involved with the Gold Star Wives where she met many long-lasting friends, all of them fighting and lobbying for the rights and compensation for the families of fallen veterans. Also, Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and spent several years as a Chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs.
Lord, we pray for her Eternal Peace and we look forward to being with her again!
