Mary Frances Pomie, 89, passed away April 19, 2023. Mary Frances was born in Columbia, MO on September 30, 1933. She was preceded in death by her longtime partner, John Hartmann, her parents, Charles and Eva Mae Pomie and her only sibling, Marjorie Ann Elbert. She graduated Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO in 1951 and from Southern University of New Orleans in 1977 with the highest academic honor, summa cum laude as well as the recipient of the University Faculty Award, the university's highest award.
Mary Frances lived joyfully and fully, she had a curiosity about the world, both far and near, and spent time traveling around the globe and the US throughout her life, even in her 88th year. She worked many years as an administrator for Sears, Roebuck, & Co. and the Boy Scouts of America, living in New Orleans, LA for thirty years. Eventually, Mary Frances returned to Kansas City, her childhood home, and maintained an active lifestyle. After retiring at age 62, she became deeply interested and committed to genealogy and spent many years searching for family history of her ancestors. She attended Catholic church services several times each week, visited the public library weekly, attended Silver Sneakers exercise classes at the local YMCA, and was an active member of a writer’s group. When she was 88, she went zip lining with one of her nephews and his wife. Mary Frances was very fond of her family, countless friends, her nieces and nephews and especially of her fur babies, her beloved dogs over the years. Visitation will be 12PM, with memorial services to follow at 1PM, Monday, May 8 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
