Mary Ellen Wood

Mary Ellen Wood (92), born on July 27, 1932, entered into eternal glory on October 10, 2024.

She married Ralph R. Wood on October 27, 1951. Mary was a dedicated volunteer, passionate about sewing, and cherished her time outdoors with family.

Throughout her adult life, she devoted herself to volunteering at hospitals and charity organizations, making clothes for families in need. Together with Ralph, she enjoyed weekends at the lake, sharing their love of fishing and boating while watching their grandchildren grow. In her later years, Mary traveled across the United States on bus tours, visiting family and friends. She continued her sewing, creating caps for newborns and the HUGS project, as well as cool down towels for service members overseas.

A vibrant spirit, Mary loved life and her family deeply. She loved their dog, Thunder, often considering him the best dog in the world, she treated him as one of her grandkids. She was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs, admiring Patrick Mahomes, whom she considered quite the young man.

As a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Mary made each family member feel special. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Clark; her mother, Cordella Clark; her beloved husband, Ralph R. Wood; her siblings: Warren, Wally, Jim, Jack, and Cory Clark, Bonnie McKenzie, and Nita Baltzell; and her son in law Kelvin Allen.

Mary is survived by her children, Connie and Chuck Rutledge and Linda Allen; her sister, Margie Garland; her grandchildren, Raymond and Billie Allen, Eddie and Heather Scholler, Jason and Laurie Allen, Clayton Scholler, Lorie Ann Allen, and Christie and Ryan Rinehart; her great-grandchildren, Riley and Jill Scholler, Josie Scholler and Dause Bowden, Amber Allen, Brandon and Sofia Allen, Korbin Flickinger, Eli Flickinger, and Jaxon Rinehart; and her great-great-grandchildren, Bradley Allen, Artie Allen, Ellie Scholler, and Holden Scholler.

The family will receive friends and family beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. A celebration of Mary’s life will follow at 2:00 PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Park Lawn Funeral Home.
