Leona M. Mcclure

Leona Mae (O'Day) McClure, 81, a longtime Kansas City Northland resident, passed away October 26, 2021, at Carnegie Village in Belton, MO.

Leona was born August 16, 1940, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Jack and Marguerite (Bush) O'Day. She was a 1958 graduate of North Kansas City High School and in 1984 received certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Leona was united in marriage to Drexel Lee McClure on May 25, 1959.

In the late 1950's, Leona worked as a Flight Attendant for Frontier Airlines on DC 3 aircraft. Leona worked in two Oral Surgeons' offices, most recently for Dr. Grant Cookson in the Kansas City Northland. She also owned and operated Little Bits in Claycomo where she catered and created beautiful wedding cakes. She was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church.

Along with her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Drexel. Survivors include her daughters, DeAnn Ausmus (Michael) and Kellee Emberson; grandchildren, Andrew Ausmus (Laura), Ashley McCormick (Chad), Sierra Emberson (Jake Kilgore) and Alexandra Ausmus; great grandchildren, Adalynn Ausmus, Atticus Ausmus, Maya McCormick and Violet McCormick; as well as other family members and friends.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, on Monday, November 8, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Burial in Glenridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
