Dottie G. Mcgowan

Dottie G. (Scroggins) McGowan, 101, of Raytown, MO, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2022, in Blue Springs.

Dottie was born on February 4, 1921, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. At a young age, her family moved to Joplin, Missouri. In her 20s, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator. Joplin residents who picked up the phone to place a call would have heard a cheerful “Hello, Central Joplin.”

In September, 1945, she married Earl L. McGowan after his return from WWII military service. They were married 55 years when Earl passed in 2001.

After moving to Raytown, she worked for Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, as a telephone operator until her retirement. Dottie was a caring and compassionate mother and grandmother who loved gardening, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by parents, John and Effie Scroggins; and husband, Earl L. McGowan.

She is survived by children: Dennis and wife Karen, Douglas, and Dwight and wife Janet; grandchildren Mandi, Debra, Denise, Daniel, Derek, and Megan; and great-grandchildren Emma, Tyson, Eva, Emilia, and Madeline.

The family will hold a visitation at noon, Saturday, 12/3/2022 followed by a service at 1:00 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO. Burial will follow at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Ascend Hospice, 783 NE Anderson Lane, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064.

Funeral services will by 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive friends at 12Noon prior to services.
