McLerran, Jay D.

October 7, 1943 — October 31, 2020

On Saturday, October 31, 2020, Jay McLerran, passed away at the age of 77.

Jay was born in Clinton, MO to James and Leora (Copenhaver) McLerran. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1971. On April 27, 1968 he married the love of his life, Matilda Borkowski. During their 52 years of marriage they welcomed two children. After leaving military service, Jay worked as a drywall finisher for over thirty years with the Painter’s Local Union 1594. One of his favorite past times while driving through the city was sharing stories about all the buildings he worked in over the years. His early years of retirement were spent driving a school bus in the Raytown school district, in the hopes of having his grandson on one of his trips. Jay will be remembered as a sweet man with a giving personality, and just a little on the ornery side.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kevin Jay McLerran and his brother-in-Law Howard Weigman. He is survived by his wife, Matilda, his daughter, Brenda (Michael) Boessen, his grandchildren Kevin and Sarah, his sister Nancy (Howard) Weigman, sisters-in-law Terry (Pancho) Silva and Phyllis Rachilla (Doug), along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Jay was my brother. Because he was so much older than me I idolized him, thought he was very handsome, he will be missed! I love my brother!

Nancy Weigman

Jay was a part of my life since I was a small child. He was definitely a character. I loved him and am so sorry I didn't get more time with him before he passed. He was one of my favorite people. I will always remember him fondly.

Hold on to one another as you try to work through your grief. Nicole is very sad at this news as he took her back and forth to school for years. Please let us know if we can do anything for you.

Chris Stecker

So sorry for your loss. May you find peace in his memory.
