Glenda “Sue” (Raffurty) McMurry of Independence, MO died unexpectedly at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO, just after midnight on October 15, 2022. She was 79 years old.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Ora J and Glada S Raffurty (2010 and 2020, respectively), her older brother Richard O Raffurty (2018), and her son, Robert Michael McMurry (2020).
Sue was born January 12, 1943 to parents Ora J and Glada Sue (Bradley) Raffurty in Kansas City, MO, joining a brother, Richard Oran. A few years later, to her delight Sue got her “baby” brother, Donald Joseph. She always said that she had the best brothers. Sue graduated from Center High School in 1961. She worked at A.T.T., Kansas City, MO. It was while working downtown that she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” McMurry. After a whirlwind courtship, they got married on September 17, 1966, and they’d been inseparable ever since. In 1969, they welcomed a baby boy, Robert Michael, and 9 years later, a baby girl, Molly Christine. Sue was an incredibly loving wife, mom and grandma, and was even a “surrogate mom” to a few! Sue was known as an amazing cook, and was always happy to feed the slew of young people her kids would bring home for dinner.
Sue was also an adept amateur genealogist and put in decades of work, expanding on what her Aunt Milly, Aunt Alta, brother Don had begun. In recent years, Sue enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandkids and family. She was just delighted to be a grandma! With her loving nature and spunky spirit, Sue was loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply and dearly missed.
Sue is survived by her dear husband of 56 years, Robert R McMurry, daughter Molly Lang, son-in-law Mark Lang, grandsons Peyton McMurry and Leo Lang, and granddaughter Linley Lang. She also leaves behind her brother Donald J Raffurty, sister-in-law Pamela Raffurty and sister-in-law Linda Raffurty (Richard) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
