Roy Dean Medlen

Roy Dean Medlen, 92, formerly of Kearney and a recent resident of Addington Place at Shoal Creek, went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2020, at Liberty Hospital.

Roy was born December 17, 1927, in High Point, MO, the eldest of two children of Harry J. and Zelma (Kelsay) Medlen. Following graduation from high school in California, MO, Roy served in the U.S. Navy. Following honorable discharge, Roy met and was united in marriage to Elayne Sharp. She preceded Roy in death in 1978. He was later united in marriage to Virginia (Laverty) Estep. Roy's career with the US Postal Service spanned 32 years. He was a member of Northern Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Virginia "Ginny" Medlen; daughters, Anita Vaglica (Richard, deceased), Barbara Clark (Bruce) and Cheryl Reed (Jim); grandchildren, Lesli Vaglica Kieffaber (Kalen), Kelly Clark Pope (Jeremy), Brennan Clark (Baylee), Travis Clark (Brenda), Ashley Reed Bergan (Dan) and Logan Reed (Shannon); and 12 great grandchildren. Roy also leaves Ginny's family, including children, Karen Cummings (Alan) and Carl Estep (Irene); granddaughters, Angela Bentley (Jamie), Kimberly Neighbors (Byron) and Elizabeth Estep; and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are Roy's sister, Etheleen Davidson (Gene, deceased); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, followed by a service celebrating Roy's life at 11:00 am, on Saturday, August 22, at Northern Hills Baptist Church, 17211 NE 180th Street, Holt, MO 64048. Burial service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the church.
